Donald Leroy Purinton, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

He was born on September 5, 1937, to Roy and Mabel Purinton in Kansas City, Missouri. His younger siblings were Robert ‘Bobby,’ Orville, and Esther. He moved with family at age 11 to Corpus Christi. He attended Del Mar Junior College and transferred to the University of Texas at Austin earning a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering.

He worked at the DuPont Chemical Plant in Victoria, and took a three-month leave for an educational tour of Europe.

He married his lovely sweetheart, Beverly Wingo, a third grade teacher from Wills Point. They moved to Austin where she taught while he earned a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering.

Their son, David Don Purinton, was born in Austin. After graduation, Don accepted employment with Texas Instruments in the Antenna Lab.

Several years later, Diane Purinton Farnham was born. Don earned many patents and retired after 29 years from Texas Instruments.

Afterwardss, he consulted with Pacific Radomes and Applied Aerodynamics for 20 years.

Outside of work, Don became an outings leader for the Sierra Club friends and family members.

His outdoor adventures included National Parks, State Parks, foreign countries, backpacking and hiking trails, canoeing, coral reef snorkeling, visiting historical sites, and tandem bicycle rides.

In later years, his interests focused on his six grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Llewellyn Purinton and Mabel; his brother, Robert ‘Bobby’ Purinton; his parents-in-law, David S. Wingo and Ruth J. Wingo; and his sister-in-law, Carolyn W. Joyce and her husband, George Joyce.

Don is survived by his wife, Beverly W. Purinton of 63 years; son, David Purinton and wife, Amy, of San Antonio; and daughter, Diane P. Farnham and husband, Bud, of Plano.

His six beloved grandchildren: Quinn Farnham, Bryce Farnham, Shiloh Purinton, Micah Purinton, Allison Purinton, and Davin Purinton.

His brother, Orville Purinton and wife, Nancy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his sister, Esther Hollingsworth and husband, Cecil, of Austin; his sister-inlaw, Sylvia W. Huckabee and husband, Tommie of Stephenville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He donated his body to UT Southwestern for medical research. Per Don’s wishes, the immediate family will have a private graveside service.
