Mr. David Rudolph “Rudy” Kirby, 90, of Grand Saline, passed away Sept. 19, 2021. He was born Oct. 21, 1930, in the Culver Community, of Van Zandt County. He spent his early years in Grand Saline, and graduated from GSHS, Class of 1949. He moved to the Dallas area where he owned/ operated Temtrol Lennox A/C & Heat for many years, before moving back to Grand Saline 35 years ago. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and their Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class, and also the Grand Saline Lion’s Club. Rudy was an avid hunter, fisherman, traveler, and RV’er. His favorite places were Alaska and Colorado, and his pride and joy were his great-grandchildren.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lana Kay Smallin Kirby; daughter, Juliana Marie Kirby; brothers, Leroy Kirby, Henry Kirby, and J.R. Kirby; sisters, Gladsie Pierce, Elsie Davis, Fannie Mae Shields, Laverne Fowler, Annie Adkins, and Wanda Reid.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Jeanette Kirby of Denver, Colorado, and Patricia Kirby Marshall (Randy) of Fort Worth; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Pyles of Pattonsburg, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jessica Randale Proffer (Brandon) of Keene, and David Ryan Marshall (Elizabeth) of Mesquite; two great-grandchildren, Samuel Bennett Proffer and Hailee Mae Proffer and numerous other relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers were A.J. Hillard, David Barber, Galloway Darby, Kenneth Moody, and Ferd Maciel.

Memorials may be made to the G.S. Lions Club, Woodside Cemetery, or Oakland Cemetery.

A private family service will be held at Bartley Funeral Home.
