Funeral services for Asa Wayne Shelby, 50, of Wills Point, were held Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial followed at Small Cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to service time.

Asa passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, in Tyler.

Asa Wayne Shelby was born on April 21, 1972, in Grand Saline, to parents, Carl Wayne Shelby and Helen Sue Shelby. He was raised in Edgewood and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1990. Asa worked various jobs over the years until he was unable to work because of his illness. He enjoyed fishing and watching dirt track racing. Asa loved to cook especially outside on the grill with friends, but what he loved the most were his children who were his world.

He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Wayne Shelby; grandparents, and uncle, Larry Don Jones.

Asa is survived by his mother, Helen Shelby of Wills Point; son, Blake Shelby of Wills Point; daughter, Issi Shelby of Wills Point; sisters, Amy Shelby of Tatum, and Fannie Knox and husband, Paul, of Wills Point; brother, Justin Shelby and wife, Audrey, of Lufkin; nephews, Luke Phillips and girlfriend, Reagan Smith of Cooper; Alex Phillips and girlfriend, Alleigh Bryan, of Cooper, and Carl Shelby of Lufkin, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
