Services for Mr. Alvin L. Erwin, 84, of Grand Saline, were held on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, at Bartley Funeral Home, with Bro. Craig Locke and Brett Erwin officiating.

Alvin Leo Erwin passed away Oct. 27, 2022, at his home. He was born Jul. 31, 1938, in Fruitvale, to Eugene V. Debs and Annie Belle Pickens Erwin. He was the only son and the youngest child in a family of 9 children. Alvin was raised in Diboll and Edgewood, and graduated from Edgewood High School, as a part of the class of 1956. He immediately enrolled in the Army and served his country for 3 years, with most of that time being spent in Germany. He married Barbara Alexander in 1960 and they had two sons. They lived in Dallas for a short while before moving to Edgewood. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1993, after 30 years of service. Al spent his retirement years hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents and all his sisters, Marguerite Crawford; Frances Parker; Vonola Armstrong; Eva Henderson; Floris Scarborough; Doris Erwin; Grenita Latham, and Remona Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of 62 years; son, Dennis Erwin and wife, Shelly, of Oil City, Louisiana; son, Steve Erwin and wife, Dawn, of Grand Saline; three grandsons, Alex Erwin and wife, Carrie, of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; Colten Erwin and wife, Kathryn, of Wolfe City, and Adam Erwin of Grand Saline; one great-grandson, Charlie Erwin of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; two step-grandchildren, Tamara Howe and husband, Scott, and David Hale, all of Louisiana; three step-great-grandchildren, Hannah; Jacob, and Owen Howe of Louisiana, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Al has been surrounded by a multitude of loving family and friends during his final days. Special friends and caregivers, Amanda Brumfield, Kristina Johnson, and Clarenca Wooten, took such good care of Al during his home health and hospice days.

Pallbearers will be Larry Crawford, Ron Latham, Donny Latham, Jimmy Cook, and Edward Cook.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Erwin, Colten Erwin, and Adam Erwin.

The family received friends on Monday, Oct. 31, 2022, at the funeral home.
