Maria Alicia Lopez Vargas, 74, of Wills Point, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, in Sunnyvale.
Maria was born on Jan. 11, 1947, to the late Jose and Maximina Lopez in Mission. She married her husband, Armando Vargas, on June 15, 1968. They built their life together in Grand Prairie, then moved to Wills Point. Maria retired from Medical City Dallas in 2009. She was a member and former staff of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Wills Point. She loved preparing flower arrangements, spending time in her garden, hosting family gatherings, sewing, and her favorite, playing Loteria.
Maria is survived by her husband, Armando Vargas Sr., of Wills Point; children, Magdalena “Maggie” Cooper and Timothy of Dallas, Armando Vargas Jr., of Wills Point, Esteban “Steven” Vargas and Erica of Wills Point, and Veronica Vargas of Dallas; brothers, Guadalupe Lopez, Manuel Lopez, Jose Lopez, Jesus Lopez and David Lopez; sisters, Ester Pardun, Esmeralda Rodi, Yolanda Wegner, and Diana Lopez Ennis; grandchildren, Ariana Cooper, Mia Vargas, Angelina Vargas, Victorya Ortega, Alyssa Vargas, Armando Vargas III and Sabrina Vargas, along with 11 great-grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Eva Bocanegra and brother, Adam Lopez. Family accepted guests on Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, and Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Wills Point.
