1961 – 2024

Erica Jo Haptonstall Jessup, 62, passed away peacefully at Hospicare Ithaca on May 10. Erica enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 after completing high school early. Proud of her military service she was supportive of all veterans and their causes. Erica earned degrees in Accounting and Business Management while raising her family. A new opportunity with Cornell University, and purchasing her home in 2005, brought her to Ithaca, NY and a long career in a place that became very dear to her heart. She loved nature, flowers, birds, plants and being outdoors working in the garden as well as making and sharing delicious food with family, friends and those in need. Those who love her best admire her strength, determination, kindness and generosity.

A beloved mother and a deeply caring person Erica will be remembered as someone who would shine her light into the darkest of places and was devoted to creating a better future.

Erica was the daughter of the late Wesley and Reba Haptonstall of Fruitvale, TX. Those mourning her passing include daughters Jessica (Jeremy) Carr and Jennifer Jessup; sisters Cynthia Hague, Gail Wade, Diana McBurnett and Vonda Carvajal; grandchildren Trent Houck, Andrew and Taylor Shaw; Lilian Carr; extended family, friends and community. A private service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospicare Ithaca or Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes.
