Ethel Irene Simpson passed Aug.12, 2023, was born in Wills Point July 12, 1925, and was married Oct. 3, 1941 to Sam Laveta Sherwood (deceased). She had nine children, Alton Sherwood, DaFamay Reese, Linda Travis, Raybon Sherwood, Dennis Sherwood, Dusty Sherwood, Robin Sherwood, Bobbie Jean Sanders and James Sherwood. She passed Aug. 12, 2023.

She lived in the Van Zandt County area all her life, although she loved traveling, which included California, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, Washington D.C., Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and several cruises.

Ethel loved all of her 25 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren very much and babysat for nearly all of them.

Ethel and Sam farmed and had a wholesale nursery in Edgewood and Myrtle Springs.

Ethel was a strong, energetic pioneer woman, known for her loving caring attitude, loving to visit and talk about what’s happening in the local area. She had many friends. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Bingo (And no visiting during Bingo, she was serious) and enjoyed visiting the casinos to play with her friends and some family members.

Ethel will be missed and remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Gathering service was Friday Aug. 18, 2023. Memorial Service was Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023.
