Memorial services for Carman “Butch” Girdley, 77, of Wills Point, is scheduled for 2 p.m,, Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. The family will accept friends one hour prior to service time.

Butch passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, in Athens.

Carman Carlton Girdley was born on April 24, 1945, in Wills Point, to parents Travis Carman Girdley and Ida Elizabeth Ewalt Girdley. He was a life-long resident of Wills Point where he graduated from high school in 1963. Butch married Linda Welch on June 2, 1964, and they had two boys, Travis and Jeff. He was a consultant for the Hollingsworth engineering firm for many years. Later, Butch was a fireman for Wills Point and the chief for 10 years. He was also employed as the Wills Point City Manager in his later years. Butch was a member of First Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting deer, turkey and dove.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Ida Elizabeth Girdley.

Butch is survived by his wife, Linda Girdley of Wills Point; sons, Travis Girdley and wife, Corrie, of Canton, and Jeff Girdley and wife, Teresa, of Canton; grandchildren, Wade Girdley; Randy Girdley and wife, Dani; Will Girdley and wife, Heather; Meagan Harris and husband, Zach; Lane Girdley and wife, Savannah; Grayson Girdley; Dustin Sherman and wife, Julie, and Leanna Harris and husband, Tyler; along with 16 great grandchildren.
