Services for John Kalalau were Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Hilliard Funeral Home with Delana Wheeler officiating.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Fairway Garden of Memories Cemetery in Van.

John James Kalalau was born July 8, 1946, in Oahu, Hawaii. He had been a resident of Canton since 1983, formerly living in Lawton, OK. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1983, serving two tours in Vietnam, three years in Germany and a few years in Fort Sill, OK. He retired as a crew chief from Texas Department of Transportation after 25 years of service. He loved animals, especially dogs. He rescued 83 dogs over the years and loved each one.

John passed away at the age of 76 on October 15, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Kalalau, Sr. and Luciana Makaio Kalalau.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Burga Kalalau of Canton.
