Spate of tornadoes far outpaces the average
TEXAS PRESS ASSOCIATION April was a busy month for tornadoes across the United States with 373 recorded, bringing the total for the year to 549, the Austin American-Statesman reported. That is nearly double the average at this point in the year, according to the National Weather Service.
Early voting begins May 20 in runoffs
Early Voting for the two Van Zandt County Commissioners Court elections will begin Monday, May 20 and continue through Friday, May 24. Election Day is Tuesday, May 28.
Final city, school election results from May 4 released
Final results from the Saturday, May 4 city and school elections in Van Zandt County have been released. City elections were held May 4 in Grand Saline, Van, and Wills Point, while school elections took place in Edgewood, Fruitvale, and Van.
National Day of Prayer ceremony held in Canton
davidb@vanzandtnews.com A near standing room only crowd was in attendance May 2 for the 73rd Annual National Day of Prayer ceremony. The ceremony took place in the Van Zandt County Court at Law Courtroom inside the VZC Courthouse in Canton and was hosted by the Canton Ministerial Alliance.
