Fourth place in the district boys’ basketball race involving the Van Vandals was still up for grabs as they finished the regular season in a fourway tie for the last post-season berth in their district.

The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs opened their 2024 playoff run in impressive style Feb. 12 as they dominated Grapeland at home, 71-27.

The Edgewood Lady Dogs varsity basketball team improved their season record to 25-9 as they eased past Bells, 43-41, in the bi-district round of the girls’ state basketball playoffs Feb. 13.

After leading by only four points at halftime, the Van Lady Vandals came through with a strong second half performance Feb. 13 to outlast Sulphur Springs, 54-43, in the Class 4A bi-district girls’ basketball playoff game.

Like Yogi Berra used to say, it was ‘déjà vu all over again.’ One week later, same teams, same result. The Canton Eaglette basketball team secured a number one seed and Troy Carrell’s first district championship at Canton with a convincing 45-25 win over the Bearettes in Mabank Feb.
