Stalemate continues on proposed salary increases

For the second time in a two-week period, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court took no action on a request for increased salaries covering 29 positions in the VZC Sheriff’s Department. After appearing before the commissioners’ court March 15, VZC Sheriff Joe Carter returned to make the same request March 29.

Union Chapel Cemetery to celebrate 150th anniversary

This year, 2023, marks the 150th anniversary of the first burial in Union Chapel Cemetery. The anniversary will be celebrated at the cemetery’s annual Decoration Day on April 28, 2023.

Republican Women of VZC to host meeting

The next meeting for Republican Women of Van Zandt is scheduled for Monday, April 10 at the Van Zandt County Library located at 317 First Monday Lane in Canton. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m., with the meeting to being promptly at 6 p.m.
