Traffic along County Road 243 near County Road 2512 was closed for close to three hours July 5 after a two-vehicle accident at approximately 2:30 p.m. According to reports, a truck pulling a flatbed trailer was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler while attempting to turn. Steven “Craig” Shelton, 61, pleaded guilty July 6 in federal court in the Eastern District of Texas to violating an arrestee’s civil rights by using excessive force against him. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston for the Eastern District of Texas, and Special Agent in Charge Matthew DeSarno of the FBI Dallas Field Division made the announcement.

I’ve been reading my Bible in reverse. Oh, not really word-by-word in reverse, just in the reverse order of books. I’ve read through the Bible several times over the last 10 years, but after getting stuck in Leviticus and Numbers a few times, I figured out a way to mix up the daily readings so that I don’t get stuck in a quagmire again – I read out of three different portions of the Word during any given week – History, Poetry, and the New Testament.

In athletics, we sometimes perceive a coach or player has lost their edge or usefulness. Coaches, for example, might have served admirably for several years. Then, for whatever the reason they are replaced. For many years they were productive, then suddenly, leadership perceives they need to make a change. In the same context, players sometimes are labeled and cannot shake the coaches’ perception. Decision makers have the right to make changes as they perceive are needed. What is the perception by the decision maker?

Dear Editor, A New Cultural Socialism We may surmise ourselves and imbue religion in our daily lives, but the stigmatism is much deeper that we can imagine. What is really going on in our country is that a movement of socialism is destroying the very essence of what our country was founded on- religion.

Dear Editor, Welcome to the world of squirrels, our cute little squirrels are getting tough, no more acorns, so how about car and truck engines? I went out to go to the store a few months ago, and my truck would not start. Having just put a new battery in, I was puzzled.

Graveside services for Jo Lynn Sherburne, 64, of Desoto, Texas were held Wednesday, July 6, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Mabank. Services were under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.

Clara Oldfield Terry Hoover Brewer died June 27, 2022, at age 101. Clara had recently moved to Canton Oaks Nursing Home in Canton, Texas.

Graveside services for Tommy Gene Hunter, 82, of Wills Point, were held Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Myrtle Springs Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, July 8, 2022, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral in Wills Point.
