The sixth week of high school football brought with it a mixed bag for county schools. Canton, Edgewood and Van each registered impressive wins while Fruitvale and Grand Saline each suffered setbacks. Things should get even more interesting in the weeks ahead with Canton, Fruitvale and Wills all starting district play Oct. 7-8 and Van set to kick off its district run Oct. 15.

Vaccinated rate continues to increase

The number of eligible Van Zandt County residents designated as having at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or fully vaccinated continued to inch higher last week according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Auditions open at Talent Box

Eutus Howeth Allen, 101, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, at his home in Dallas. Eutus was born on Jan. 24, 1920, in Bokchito, Oklahoma, to parents Howeth Allen and Grace Louise Yeager Allen.
