The Canton Eaglettes had to put in some extra time on the court last week, clashing with a talented Rusk squad that finished last season with a trip to the playoffs. Canton would ultimately prevail in the show down, storming back from a sluggish start to claim a five-set victory.

The Rusk Lady Eagles started the match strong, easily taking the first set 25-18 to put Canton in an early deficit. Things continued to favor Rusk in the second as the Lady Eagles put together their best set of the night to outpoint Canton 25-12.

Down two sets to none, the Eaglettes roared back in the third. Canton dominated both offensively and defensively in the frame, forcing a forcing a fourth set with a 25-12 run.

Canton squared the match at two sets apiece with another dominant run, outpacing Rusk 25-21 to force a fifth and final set.

The Eaglettes would go on to complete their comeback bid with arguably their best set of the night, turning back Rusk at every turn to claim the fifth 15-8.

The Eaglettes were slated to compete at the Athens Varsity Tournament Aug. 26 and Aug. 28, with a stop in Sunnyvale scheduled in between. Other upcoming matches will include a trip to Whitehouse Aug. 31, a stint at the Whitehouse Varsity Tournament Sept. 2 and Sept. 4, and home match against Rains Sept. 3.
