In response to COVID-19, the East Texas Food Bank held an emergency food box distribution on Tuesday, May 5, at First Monday Trade Days in Canton. ETFB served 700 families at the distribution. The distribution was supported by Texas Army National Guardsmen, Manna, Inc. Food Pantry and Crossroads Canton. Reading challenge still on at GS Library

Summer reading has started at the library. Each week we will provide a take home activity for children of all ages and challenge/activity for adults. Adults (or anyone aged 16 or older) can complete the challenges each week to have their names placed in a weekly drawing for a book bag.

Legacy AG Credit awards scholarships to VZC students

Legacy Ag Credit awarded college scholarships to two Van Zandt County students. Katy Erin Berry was awarded a $2,500 scholarship and plans to attend Blinn College. Sydney Osborn was awarded a $2,500 scholarship as well and plans to attend Texas A&M University.

Producers needs to be on the lookout in their hay meadows for bermudagrass stem maggots. I realize this may be a little early than we have seen them in the past few years, but I can assure you there is a producer between Canton and Martin’s Mill that was hit hard by them last week.
