Lettie “Loyce” Ferrell passed away on Dec. 31, 2020, in Canton, at the age of 91 years, 11 months. She was born on Jan. 21, 1929, to Lettie Leah (Norman) and Samuel Knox Freeman in rural Van Zandt County.
Loyce was the youngest of seven children and one of the most spirited. She attended Mono Country School and graduated from Mabank High School in 1947. After graduation, she and her twin sister, Joyce, moved to the big city of Dallas. On Feb. 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to Auble Burgess and was blessed with two children, Larry Keith and Jana Kaye. Auble and Loyce had 31 years together before his passing in 1982. On June 30, 1990, Loyce married Dudley Ferrell and remained by his side until his passing in 2008. Loyce was employed by Sanger Harris Company when first arriving in Dallas. Later on, she worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas until her retirement. She was passionate about “her” Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Loyce could and would talk with anyone and everyone. She never met a stranger.
Loyce is survived by her son, Larry, and daughter in law, Dixie Faye; granddaughters, Christina and William Roberts, Courtney and Philip Greanead and Caitlin and Cory Lemons; two great-grandsons, Colton and Connor Roberts; sisters in law, Bobbie Freeman and Daphine Freeman; several nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Connie and Lloyd Odle, Beverly and Mike Langford and Guy Ferrell and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; daughter, Jana; husbands, Auble and Dudley and her brothers and sister.
Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at Williams Memorial Chapel, 1600 South Garland Avenue, Garland, TX 75040. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park, 3920 Samuel Blvd., Dallas, TX 75228.
