Jay Scott Smith, 68, of Quinlan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, in Wills Point. Memorial services celebrating his life were held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Calk and Brother Jerry Scott officiating.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1951, in Kaufman and graduated from Kaufman High School. He grew up in Kaufman and Garland and lived most of his life in Terrell and recently in Quinlan.

He served in the U.S. Army as a combat field medic in the Vietnam war. After serving his country, he continued to serve for many years as a police officer in several East Texas cities. He was also a volunteer instructor at the Terrell Police Academy Advanced course.

His hobbies included gun smithing, IDPA competition gun shooting, riding motorcycles, performing as lead singer in a band at local bars and getting together with friends and family, as well as singing in his church.

He is loved and will be missed by his goddaughter, Erica Mabry of Tyler; close friend Debbie Runyon of Wills Point; and numerous close friends all over the East Texas area.
