Gerald ‘Jerry’ Mann

Gerald Oliver “Jerry” Mann was born Feb. 13, 1942, in Antlers, Oklahoma. He had been a resident of Ben Wheeler since 2012, formerly living in Winnsboro and Grand Prairie.

He worked in communications as a computer technician for many years and belonged to American Legion 340 in Winnsboro.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years, receiving numerous awards and medals. He was a talented musician, playing the bass guitar since the age of 13. Jerry passed away at the age of 77 on Aug. 28, 2019, in Tyler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Ethel Sugg Mann, and brothers, Roger Mann and Leroy Mann.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Opal Mann of Ben Wheeler; four children and their spouses, Victoria and Mike Downs of Rockwall, Frank and Nancy Parker of Missouri, Stephanie and Brian Hutchison of North Carolina, and James Mann of Florida; three brothers, Travis Mann, Clifford Mann and wife, Hazel, and Charlie Mann and wife, Karen; eight grandchildren, Danielle, Taylor, Matthew, Jessica, Haylee, Kyle, Tory, and Jack; and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Adalyn.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
