Dorothy Rea Duncan 88, of Sweetwater passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at Sterling Hills Rehab in Sweetwater. Graveside services were held Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, at Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton. with Ben Hendley officiating. Interment followed under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. A visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born Dec. 14, 1932, in Walton Community in Henderson County to the late Claude and Ruby (Stewart) Hendley. She married W.C. Rea Jr. in 1951 and was married until his death in 1985. Dorothy then married Donald Duncan in 1992 and was married until his death in 2011. Dorothy received her master’s degree in special education from Baylor University. She started her teaching career in 1958 until her retirement in 1991. Dorothy then received the nickname “Doll Doctor” for her work on restoring dolls.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Rita Kathleen Rea of Big Spring, TX; son, Randall Rea and wife Crystal of Sweetwater, TX; stepchildren, Terry Duncan and wife Angel of Snyder, TX., James Duncan and wife Bonnie of Oklahoma City, Okla., Linda Walker of Big Spring, TX; grandchildren Leslee Shaw and husband Justin of Sweetwater, TX., Erica Jones and husband Clayton of Sweetwater, TX., Kendall Rea and wife Stormie of Sweetwater, TX., Austin Moreland of Sweetwater, TX., Lisa Duncan of Lubbock, TX., Amber Duncan of Lubbock, TX., Sean Duncan and wife Amy of Snyder, TX; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, W.C. Rea, Jr. and Donald Duncan; sister, Jean Watson and brothers, Joe Hendley, Bob Hendley and Jim Hendley.
