Betty Jane Polege Hubbell, 89, was born in Dunkerton, Iowa, to Ed and Lillian Polege on July 23, 1930, and joined her parents, sister, and husband, Robert Hubbell, children, Randy and Ellie Hubbell, Russell Hubbell, and grandson, Michael Hubbell in heaven on Oct. 9, 2019.

She and Bob lived and raised their family in Des Moines, Iowa, before moving to Texas and Florida where she lived for much of her life. Recently, she moved back to Texas to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

She was a Granny to many as she drove a school bus in Texas and Florida. She loved to cook and crochet, read books and play games on her Kindle and it was with great joy that her crocheted Santa suit birthed the children’s book, ‘The Crocheted Santa,’ written and published about her and the special suit. Her crochet also won first and third place at the State Fair of Texas.

She is survived by her brother, Bill Polege of Wills Point; sister, Minnie Ada of Jessup, Iowa; daughter, Barbra and husband, Dennis Bass, Wills Point; son, Rick Hubbell and LaVon Neely, Ankeny, Ia., daughter-in law Jane Hubbell, Wills Point, son, Rex Hubbell, Des Moines, Iowa; daughter, Bonnie Hubbell, Wills Point; self-adopted daughter, Terry McAlpine. Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Steven, LaVonda, Shannon, Josh S., Sheila, Josh H. Amanda, Don, Amy, Mark, Kasey, Shayne, Marcy, Jack, Ashley, and Brian who lived with and cared for her in Florida until she moved to Texas to live with her daughter, Barbra, earlier this year.

She is also survived by great-grandchildren Taylor, Stephie, Preston, Brandon, Brooklyn, Kylee, Anthony, Brynn, Bradyn, Amber, Ashley, Brianna, Austin, Eli; two great-great-grandchildren, Sophie and Lorenzo; and many nieces and nephews.
