Texas State Republican Cindy Burkett announced she will run for Texas Senate in the Republican Primary next March. Burkett will face incumbent Bob Hall.

Burkett is best known for her strong faith and strong work ethic. While raising three children and working full time, at age 37, she started college at night and went on to graduate with the highest honors. She ten rose to the challenge of starting a small business, eventually co-owning a company that ran several Subway sandwich shops. As a small business owner, Burkett did everything from baking bread and making sandwiches to keeping the books and, if necessary, sweeping the floors, when area voters decided to send her to Austin.

She first came to the Legislature in 2011 after defeating an incumbent Democrat in her eastern Dallas County District. Burkett has been a conservative champion, passing some of the strongest pro-life legislation in America. Democrats tried several times to take the seat back, but Burkett fended off all challenges from liberal interest groups.

“I am proud of what I have accomplished for Texas and for all people who share my conservative values,” said Burkett. “Serving in the Texas Senate will allow me to continue and expand this work. With issues like high property taxes, illegal immigration, preserving the second amendment, and protecting the right to life at stake, the list of things that must be addressed is long – and I am up to the challenge.”

A rock-solid business and taxpayer advocate, Cindy maintains a record of never raising taxes. On the sunset Commission, she consolidated or shut down wasteful government agencies. ‘A’ Rated by the NRA, Cindy has expanded gun rights each step of the way and is a statewide leader in the fight to protect innocent life. Among her proudest achievements are the defunding of Planned Parenthood, preventing the selling of fetal tissue, and the successful banning of many forms of abortion. She is relentless in her mission to put Texas abortionists out of business. And Cindy has fought illegal immigration to protect families and taxpayers.

In all, Cindy has had 30 bills signed into law by the governor – making Texas stronger and more conservative. As one of Texas’ most effective legislators, Cindy is ambitious, hard working, led by God, and driven by the challenge of turning conservative values into law.

Burkett and her husband of over 40 years, Mike, live in Sunnyvale at the crossroads of Dallas, Rockwall, and Kaufman Counties. They are members of Mimosa Lane Baptist Church
