Six out of seven proposed constitutional amendments on the Nov. 7 ballot were approved by Van Zandt County voters in totals released by the VZC Clerk’s office.

Only Proposition 5 went down to defeat in a close vote, with 499 for and 513 against. Proposition 5 expanded the definition of a “professional sports team,” giving more team-connected foundations the ability to hold charitable raffles.

The remaining constitutional amendments were approved in overwhelming fashion and the results were as follows:

Proposition 1: For, 936 (90.09 percent); Against, 103 (9.91 percent.)

What it means: It would authorize property tax exemptions for certain partially disabled veterans or their surviving spouses — those whose homes were donated to them by charity for less than market value.

Proposition 2: For, 769 (74.52 percent); Against, 263 (25.48 percent.)

What it means: This would ease restrictions on borrowing against home equity in Texas.

Proposition 3: For, 894 (86.54 percent); Against, 139 (13.46 percent.)
