The Grand Saline Lady Indians continued to keep themselves firmly in the mix to finish as one of District 12-3A’s four playoff qualifiers at the close of the regular season, going 1-1 over the past week to move their district record to 6-2 overall.

Grand Saline began its week on the road, traveling to take on the Quitman Bulldogs. Quitman, which entered the match with a 24-7 record overall including 6-0 in district play, continued to tighten their grip on a playoff position by topping the Lady Indians in three sets.

The Bulldogs set the tone early against Grand Saline, taking the first set 25-17 over the second-play Lady Indians. Quitman continued to play well throughout the rest of the night, capping the sweep by taking the second set 25-16 and the third 25-17.

The Grand Saline coaching staff selected Caitlyn Hamby as the Lady Indians' Player of the Game against Quitman after Hamby finished with seven kills, three blocks and a dig.

Grand Saline returned to the court Oct. 3, getting back on track with an easy three-set sweep of the visiting Kemp Yellowjackets.

The first set would be the most competitive of the night with Grand Saline outpointing Kemp 25-19. Kemp struggled to keep pace with the Lady Indians throughout the rest of the night with Grand Saline taking the second set 25-15 and the third set by a 25-15 count.

Mackenzie Vernon was selected by Grand Saline coaches as the team's player of the game against Kemp, finishing with six kills, five digs and three aces in the Lady Indian victory.

Standings after eight matches of District 12-3A play show Quitman in first at 8-0, followed by Grand Saline and Eustace tied for second at 6-2, Edgewood in fourth at 5-3, and Kemp, Alba-Golden, Scurry-Rosser and Mineola all currently under .500. The top four finishers in District 12-3A play will qualify for this year's 3A State Volleyball Playoffs.

Upcoming matchers for Grand Saline are set to include a home date against Mineola Oct. 10, followed by trips to take on Scurry-Rosser Oct. 13, Edgewood Oct. 17 and Alba-Golden Oct. 20. The meeting between the Lady Indians and Lady Jackets will serve as Grand Saline's annual Pink Out game.
