Fruitvale ISD reviews damage, construction of facilities

A meeting of the Fruitvale ISD Board of Trustees was held June 15, board member Bill Hunt was not in attendance.

Superintendent Rebecca Bain updated the board on the most recent storm damage. “The recent rains on Memorial Day weekend caused additional water damage to the high school which sustained damage during the April 29 tornadoes,” said Bain.

“The tornados evidently pulled out 43 plugs at the end of each row of metal roofing. When the gutters filled with water, the path of least resistance was to fill the underside of the metal roof then into the high school. The district has completed the cold remediation from the tornados therefore the district’s first order of business is to repair the roof before more water or mold causing additional damage. After the roof is repaired, the district can start replacing the damaged drywall but the district is waiting on the insurance company to decide whether the roof is to be repaired or replaced.”
