Tigers Defeat Royse City, To Open Season 46-42
The Wills Point Tigers won the season opener over Royse City, 46-42, on Saturday. The Tigers trailed until the final minute of the game, pulling out the win.
Royse City opened a 14-7 first quarter lead, but the Tigers outscored the Bulldogs by a 25-21 margin over the next two quarters. Trailing 35-29 going into the fourth, Wills Point outscored Royse City 14-7 in the final frame to get the win.
Junior Hamilton led the Tigers in scoring with 17 points. Hamilton was 5-of-11 from the field and 7-of-9 from the line. Kevin Scott and Price Davenport each scored 10 points. Scott was a perfect 4-of-5 from the field, and 2-of-4 from the line. Davenport hit the lone 3-point shot and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the line.
Steven Cunigan added five points and Trent Jurica came off the bench to score 4.
"We did what we wanted to by getting the ball in the paint," said head coach Jimmy Wallace. "We have a goal of making more free throws than the other team attempts, and we did that, too."
The Tigers were 15-of-24 from the line compared to 6-of-10 for the Bulldogs.
The Tigers fell to Dallas Life in the second game of the season, 52-41, to start 1-1. The team hosted Commerce on Tuesday evening and will host Forney on December 2.
