The Lady Tigers opened district play with and impressive 70-41 win over the Quinlan Ford Lady Panthers last Friday night, but backed up a little by falling to Rains, 39-33, on Tuesday.
Jamie Thompson and Kiambra White combined 31 points in the Quinlan game, as Thompson scored 187, and White had 13. The Lady Tigers held a 31-16 halftime lead, but had their best quarter in the third, outscoring the Lady Panthers 21-8 in the third.
The scoring for Wills Point was rounded out by Danielle Booker, who had seven; Calli Zmolek, Robbye Bernard, Courtney Kuhel and Sammi Freeman, with six apiece; Ashley Spurlock and Lauren Manning each scored three; and Heather Harbaugh had two.
A slow start against Rains doomed the Lady Tigers’ chances for an undefeated start in the district race. Wills Point fell behind 13-5 in the first quarter. They outscored the Rains 28-26 the rest of the way, but couldn’t make up the difference.
Thompson once again led the way, scoring 15 for the Lady Tigers, while White scored eight, Zmolek had six, and Manning four.
The girls will try to rebound against Royse City tonight (Friday). The junior varsity will tip off at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:15, and freshman at 7:30.
