City Seeks Airport Grant

The City of Wills Point will apply for a grant to build a facility at the newly named Van Zandt County Airport.

The East Texas Council of Governments, along with the Texas Department of Transportation administers the grant, known as the Rural Transit Project. The program provides funds for capital improvements and facilities related to transportation.

The city will apply for $192,000 of grant funds to build a 2,000 square foot building that will include an office as well as rest area and break room for commuter pilots.

"This is another step toward improving our airport, attracting pilots and positioning it to be the asset that it should be," said city manager Jim Stephens.

Deadline for the grant proposal is the first week of December.
