City Looks At Grant For Street Repairs
At a regular called meeting of the Wills Point city council held on Tuesday night, council members heard presentations from Gary Traylor, of Traylor and Associates, regarding a grant application for street repairs.
Traylor reported that recent changes in the scoring of grant applications made it possible that Wills Point could qualify for $250,000 of state funds that would be used for street repair.
The city of Wills Point would have to contribute $73,700 for a total of $323,700 in order to receive maximum points in the rating process.
The grant program, called the Texas Community Development Block Grant requires that the streets receiving repairs would have to affect 51 percent of median income residents.
Traylor presented a resolution that the council would have to approve by September 9, in order to meet application deadlines.
The council also voted to approve a new city ordinance setting minimum exterior standards for new commercial construction.
"Wills Point is going to grow," city manager Jim Stephens said after the meeting. "For healthy growth, we need continuity in the appearance and standards of our buildings."
