A Van man was arrested last Saturday night and charged with possession of a controlled substance after officers observed the man riding a bicycle on South Oak Street. The bicycle had no safety equipment.
Officer Preston Roberts stopped the man to tell him that when riding at night, there must be a light on the front of the bicycle. The man was later identified as Danny Leon McRoy, 24, Van. Roberts knew that McRoy had outstanding warrants in the past so he had county dispatch to check local warrants on McRoy.
McRoy had two warrants out of the Wills Point Police Department and two out of the Canton Police Department.
Roberts then placed McRoy under arrest for the warrants. When the officer searched him, he found a clear plastic bag wrapped in a piece of paper in McRoy’s pocket. It contained a white crystal substance.
Roberts then told McRoy he was under arrest for possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to the Van Police Department where the substance was tested and confirmed to be methamphetamine.
McRoy was transported to the Van Zandt County Jail.
