Mother Charged With Injuring Child
EDGEWOOD—A Wills Point woman was arrested late last week after an incident that left her 2 1/2-month old daughter with a broken leg.
Angel Lee-Ann Hults, 19, was charged with injury to a child and endangering a child. She was taken to the Van Zandt County Justice Center where she was booked and placed in jail for the two warrants, according to an Edgewood Police Department report.
Officer Robert Dearing of the Edgewood Police Department said he was called about 1:15 a.m. on July 7 by a nurse at Sulphur Springs Hospital’s emergency room. Dearing said the nurse told him she had an approximately 2-month-old girl with a fractured left femur and tibia.
"The nurse said the mother had brought the baby in and said the baby had caught its leg in between the slats on the side of its crib," Dearing said.
"It was determined that the baby’s injuries were not consistent with the story that was given," he added.
The baby was later transferred to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.
Hults was interviewed on July 9 by a Child Protective Services investigator, Edgewood Police Chief Henry Askew said.
Askew said he interviewed Hults after the CPS interview. After being read her rights, Hults agreed to a videotaped interview in which she admitted breaking her daughter’s leg and waiting about 12 hours before taking the baby for medical treatment, Askew said.
The injury occurred at a residence in Edgewood, according to the police report.
