Services for Newton Delano "Laney" Pope, 73, Wills Point, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, Laurel, Miss., with Dr. Bob Price officiating.
Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
He was born November 14, 1934 in Laurel to Emmett Jones and Bessie Mae Nowlin Pope. He served in the National Guard, Cost Guard and U.S. Navy. He was employed by the U.S. Treasury as an IRS Agent until retirement in 1997. He married Lucille Mae Ryan and later Nancy Christina Row.
He was preceded in death by brother, Gilford Darlington Pope; and sisters, Lila Marie Grimes, Lyra Dianna Dalton and Doris Evelyn Goodwin.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Christina Row Pope, Wills Point; brothers, Andrew David, Julius Loyd, William Hollis and Emmett Jerry Pope; sisters, Ruth Elizabeth Carden and Katherine Collette Raley; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Lee and Joe Kinnick; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Delano and Laura Pope, and Jeremy Laney and Lucy Pope; grandchildren, Kelli Ann, Ethan Daniel, Emily Teresa, Mercedes Josette, Abigail Elizabeth and Lael Sophia Pope; many nephews, nieces and other relatives.
