Donald R. Byers

Graveside services for Donald R. Byers, 80, Mesquite, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Union Grove Cemetery, north of Wills Point, with Rev. Patrick Wilson officiating, under direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home, Wills Point.

Mr. Byers died July 28, 2008, in Mesquite.

He was born May 26, 1928 in Clairton, Pa., to Donald R. and Pauline Whoolery Byers. He grew up in Clairton, where he graduated from high school. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was employed at a steel mill in Pittsburgh. He married Joan Fogelstrom in 1960. He later moved to Mesquite, where he was employed by the city of Dallas as a personnel supervisor, retiring after 18 years of service. He later moved to Chandler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan Byers, in 2004; and granddaughter, Jessica DeeAnn Byers, in 1980.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Vickie Byers, Brinson, Georgia, Bobby Kingston, Clarksville, Tenn., David and Linda McClaren, Aubrey, Donald and Vicky Byers, Quinlan, Douglas and Mikki Byers, Springtown, and Dwayne Byers, Mesquite; daughter, Paula Shumaker, Greensburg, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
