Virginia Pittman

Services for Virginia Lois Pittman, 84, Canton, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Jackson Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Adair, Rev. Bill Lane and Rev. Marshall Southerland officiating.

Burial was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park, Canton.

Mrs. Pittman died July 23, 2008, in Tyler.

She was born January 22, 1924 in Canton to Marvin Luther and Lula Pearl Hubbard Durell. She attended school at Jackson and graduated from Canton High School and Rutherford Business College in Dallas. She married Ray Tate Pittman in 1941. She was a member of Jackson Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a Social Worker for 20 years for the Texas Department of Human Resources.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Tate Pittman, in 1989; daughter, Jackie Pittman Oathout; granddaughter, Jackie Lois Mize; sisters, Dortha Lee Durell, Jo Marie Durell Pittman, Hazel Durell Dozier, and two infant sisters.

Survivors include daughter, Benja Pittman Mize, Canton; son, Dr. Michael Pittman, Dallas; grandchildren, Kristina Stanberry, Kellie Stanberry Jackson, Claire Pittman, Eddy Mize, Ryan Pittman and Casey Pittman; and great-grandchildren, Brittany and Taylor Mize, Brandon Jackson, and Jonathan and Evan Garcia.

Pallbearers included deacons of Jackson Missionary Baptist Church, Rocky Whatley and Fred Dorman.

Women of Jackson Missionary Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.
