Memorial services for Billy Dwight “Dood” Carver, 63, Grand Saline, were held Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at Bartley Funeral Home with Brol Homer Morgan officiating. Interment followed in Shields cemetery. He passed away Sept. 29, 2017, at his home in Grand Saline.

He was born July 9, 1954, in Garland to Herbert Hunter and Lois Marie Dollarhide Carver.  He spent most of his life in Dallas County before moving to Grand Saline 20 years ago. Mr. Carver is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Carver, and son, Billy Dwight Carver Jr.

Vincent Siering Haneman Jr.

Memorial services for Major General USAF (ret.) Vincent Siering Haneman Jr., of Columbus, Ga., were held Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Robert Beckum officiating. Mr. Haneman died Aug. 29, 2017, at age 93.

He was born in Orange, N.J. to the late Associate Justice Vincent Siering Haneman, New Jersey Supreme Court, and Helen Harris Haneman. He attended school in Brigantine, N.J., and became an Eagle Scout, a member of the high school swim team and an accomplished life guard.

After graduation, he attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was a member of the swim team and Sigma Nu fraternity.

Funeral services for Paula Rose Vance, 78, of Wills Point, were held Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. 

Interment followed at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Mrs. Vance passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 21, 1939, in Mesquite to Arton A. Driggars and Mary Ellen Berry Driggars.  She was raised in Mesquite and attended Mesquite High School.

She married Leland Dale Vance Dec. 27, 1955, in Mesquite. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, reading and working crossword puzzles.

She lived in Garland before moving to Wills Point 22 years ago.  She was a member of the Daughter of the Nile and Eastern Star.  She was also a member of Seven Oaks Baptist Church north of Wills Point.

Michael Ray Shinn

Memorial services for Michael Ray Shinn, 56, Gun Barrel City, were held Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, under the direction of Moorhead – Epps Funeral Home officiated by Bro. Ed Schauer. 

Mr. Shinn passed away Sept. 18, 2017, in Athens.

He was born Aug. 22, 1961, in Fort Worth to Kennith and Jeanne Clark Shinn. He attended elementary school in Canton and graduated from Bandera High School in 1979. He married his true love, Kerry, 14 years ago.

He had managed the Gun Barrel City Kwik Kar Lube & Tune for the last 17 years. His customers and coworkers alike often enjoyed a cup of coffee and conversation with him.

He enjoyed listening to music and playing his guitar, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends. 

He was a wonderful son, dad, grandfather and a dear friend to many.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Mary Frances Beene Brown, 96, passed away Sept. 23, 2017, in Denton. Funeral services were under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home in Canton. Interment was in DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.

Mrs. Brown was born July 19, 1921, in Bynum Community. She was known as “Nanny” to Wendy Bell, Brandon Bell, and Lauren Bell Bunch, and she played a significant role in their respective lives and upbringing.  She will be sorely missed.

She enjoyed a distinguished 28-year career as a property manager for companies such as Trammel Crow and Lincoln Properties.  She was also active in “Priceless Personality” courses helping women increase confidence and abilities to better themselves in life and the workplace.

Martha Elizabeth Byars Hull Wetherholt

Martha Elizabeth Byars Hull Wetherholt was born June 24, 1945, in Nashville, Tenn. to Dr. Perry J.C. Byars Jr. and Margaret Elsie Dobbins Byars.

She was raised in San Angelo and graduated in 1963 from San Angelo Central High School. She attended Trinity University in San Antonio, Angelo State Community College in San Angelo, and graduated from San Bernardino Valley College of Nursing in 1968 with Registered Nurse Licensures in California, Texas, South Carolina and Florida.

She married John W. Hull Jr. in 1964, and they had a son, John W. Hull III. They divorced in 1979. She married her beloved husband, Charles Victor Wetherholt in 1982, and they moved to Canton near Martins Mill and Walnut Springs community.

Funeral services for Leon Baker, 88, of Wills Point, were held Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with the Rev. Fred Cooper officiating. 

Interment followed at New Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Baker passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Wills Point to Fred Baker and Bessie Greenway Baker.  He was raised in Wills Point and attended Wills Point High School.  He married Selma Rose York Feb. 12, 1953. He was a self-employed cattle rancher.  He enjoyed fishing, going to rodeos, garage sales and attending auctions.  He was of the Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bessie Baker; son, David Baker; two brothers, Gene Baker and Richard Baker, and three sisters, Dorothy Burleson, Christine Brockman and Vernell Daughtery.

Interment followed at Creagleville Cemetery near Grand Saline.

Charles Eugene Wilhite

Services for Charles Eugene Wilhite, 83, of Canton, were held Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jack Thompson and Bro. Altos Womble officiating.  Interment followed in Haven of Memories.  Mr. Wilhite passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, in Canton.

He was born Oct. 18, 1933, in Fruitvale to William Charles and Nellie Gunter Wilhite. 

He was a member of the Midway Church of God.  He served two years in the Navy during the Korean War.  When he returned from the Navy, he was a truck driver for Red Ball Freight and Coca Cola for many years.  He served 21 years with the Canton Police Department and retired as a sergeant.  He enjoyed raising cattle on his Jumping W Ranch.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Cheryl Smith.
