Retired teachers visit Austin

Extension Education Club tours Cherry Creek B&B

The Van Zandt Extension Education Club met April 13 in Canton to tour the Cherry Creek Bed and Breakfast, owned by Mike and Pat Mullins. Pat, president of the Free State Master Gardeners Association, led a tour of the property and gardens. Many flowers of all species including multiple varieties of iris were in bloom. Melisa Rhodes, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension agent, said everyone was extremely impressed with the accommodations offered at the Cherry Creek Bed and Breakfast as well as the impressive gardens that surround the home.

United Daughters of Confederacy honor local veteran

A special ceremony was held during the regular meeting of the Jesse Miller Foster Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, on Monday, April 20 at the Dairy Palace in Canton. Sherrie Archer of Canton, Chapter Recorder of Military Service Awards, expressed to member Sylvia Barbee of Canton, wife of Ernie Barbee, gratitude for Mr. Barbee’s military service and that of his Confederate ancestor, Clem S. Barbee.
