October proved to be an overall positive month for Van Zandt County in terms of sales tax revenue collections with Canton, Edgewood, Grand Saline and Van all outpacing collections for the same calendar month in 2016.

According to the office of Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar, the city of Canton led all county cities in overall dollar change for the fourth consecutive month, receiving a county-best payment of $293,808.30 in October 2017. That figure was up $22,109.55 or 8.14 percent over collections in October 2016.

Van showed sales tax revenue growth for the second consecutive month, following September’s growth of $13,416.41 (when compared to Sept. 2016) by collecting $9,176.68 more than the same month last year.

Grand Saline, which found itself on the negative side of the ledger last month, bounced back in October by collecting $6,429.43 more than the $40,259.79 received from the comptroller’s office last year at this time.
