The Edgewood Lady Dogs dropped to 5-5 overall in District 12-3A play last week, falling just short in five-set losses to both district-leading Quitman and Scurry-Rosser.

Edgewood played host to Quitman Oct. 3, tangling with the second time with the state-ranked Bulldogs. Despite a game effort the match played out similarly to the teams' first meeting back on Sept. 12 with Quitman taking a hard-fought 23-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-9, 15-11 victory over Edgewood.

Kenzie Smith helped to guide the Lady Dog offense during the contest, pacing her team with 17 kills. Nicole Neal added 14 kills, Tabitha Parker 12, and Ali Simmons and Katy Pool added one each.

Smith and Parker each tallied an ace in the match, with Smith adding a team-leading seven blocks and 27 digs on defense.

Libby Martin led all Lady Dog players with 21 assists, and Tabitha Parker added 19.

Edgewood traveled to Scurry Oct. 10, falling just short in a 25-15, 18-25, 25-17, 17-25, 6-15 loss to the Lady Cats. Match stats for play between Scurry-Rosser and Edgewood were not immediately available as of press time.

Through the first 10 games of District 12-3A play, Quitman sits alone in first place at 10-0, followed by Eustace at 8-2, Grand Saline at 7-3 and Edgewood at 5-5. Additionally, Scurry-Rosser, Kemp, Alba-Golden and Mineola all sit well outside the playoff chase with four district matches remaining.

Edgewood was slated to travel to Mineola Oct. 13 before returning home to take on chief rival Grand Saline Oct. 17 for Senior Night. The Lady Dogs will wrap up District 12-3A play with road dates in Kemp Oct. 20 and in Eustace Oct. 24.
