Van Zandt County cities enjoyed a mostly positive month in sales tax revenue collections according to the office of Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar as Canton, Edgewood, Van and Wills Point all showing sales tax revenue gains when comparing Sept. 2017 figures against those from the same calendar month in 2016.

The city of Canton led all county cities in overall dollar change for the third consecutive month, receiving a county-best payment of $298,995.57 in September 2017, up $14,025.72 over collections in September 2016.

Van, which saw revenues slip $11,207.59 when comparing August 2017 with August 2016, bounced back in a big way in September by receiving a payment of $72,216.45. That total was $13,416.41 or 22.82 percent than the $58,800.04 collected during the same month last year.

Wills Point, coming off a month where it posted the largest positive percentage change and second largest dollar change overall among county cities, finished third in both categories among county cities by collecting $92,460.03 in September 2017. That dollar amount was $12,481.62 or 15.61 percent more than the total the city collected in September 2016.

Edgewood, which has struggled most of the year in sales tax revenue figure collections, bounced back to post a solid gain of $2,439.04 for the month.

For the third consecutive month, the city of Edom took a step back in collections by receiving a payment of $1,425.51 in September. That total was $91.87 or 6.05 percent less than the $1,517.38 collected last year at this time.
