New year, projects and volunteers at library

Now that school is back in session, activity has picked up at the library. Students are searching for materials to use for school projects; and parents are studying to keep up with or help their children. Stay-at -home parents may be searching for guidance with a new hobby or home improvement project. The Van Zandt County Genealogy Society will hold their monthly meeting in the Buchanan Room of the Van Zandt County Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.  Zeffie Pruitt, a Canton High School alumna who also attended Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, will bring the program, “Meaning of Kwanzaa.”

Zeffie has studied and practiced Kwanzaa with her family and friends for over 20 years and enjoys the ability to teach others about this tradition. Come hear her presentation as she introduces us to a tradition that many know little about.

One of our new library volunteers is Billie Jean (B. J.) Cole who has been working at the library eight months. B. J. shares a common thread running among volunteers – a love of reading. When she saw the need of more help, she decided to sign up as a volunteer. She brings with her 35 years’ experience in the medical field. She also serves as vice-president of the Friends of the Library and membership chairman. In addition, she is volunteer coordinator for the library.
