Photo by David Kapitan Edgewood’s Baileigh Slavens kicks up a cloud of dust as she slides safely into home during a 9-6 win March 25 against Quitman.

The Edgewood Lady Dogs had to show a little flexibility over the course of the week after being forced to reschedule a Friday night tilt against Quitman to the following day (March 25) due to unplayable field conditions caused by a rain shower early in the day.

Despite some shaky play in the field and on the base paths once play began against Quitman, Edgewood overcame all challenges to score a 9-6 come-from-behind win in the game.

Timely hitting by Quitman and three fielding errors proved costly for Edgewood in the top of third, leading directly to a 4-0 deficit.

Edgewood managed to cut the Quitman lead in half in the bottom of the inning, with an RBI single by Mary Sharff and an RBI double by Whitney Kerr making the score 4-2.

Quitman struck two more times in the top of the fourth, getting their final runs of the game on a pair of RBI hits to put Edgewood in a 6-2 hole.

Down but not out, Edgewood came marching back over the ensuing innings. Wild pitches in critical situations helped bring home Kaylee Golightly in the bottom of the fourth and Baileigh Slavens and courtesy runner Cheyenne Pennington in the bottom of hte fifth.
