Thanksgiving began as a time set aside to reflect on the blessings that we have received.

Thanksgiving has been celebrated as a federal holiday every year since 1863, when during the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of “Thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens,” to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November. Hopefully, we will continue to observe Thanksgiving in this way and not as just a precursor to Christmas commercialism and Black Friday.

The Van Zandt County Library will observe Thanksgiving by closing on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23 – 25.

The Van Zandt County Genealogical Society will presentend “Show & Tell” in the Buchanan Room of the library. Saturday, Nov. 26. Old family treasures were shared.

The Friends of the Library held the drawings for two AZPEN Tablets  Nov. 15. The two lucky winners were Kathy Burleson and Joelle Sanders.
