The Wesley Pruitt Band, along with numerous other bands put on a show May 24 to raise funds for Van Community Ministries Disaster Relief at The Forge Restaurant in Ben Wheeler.

Wesley Pruitt, lead front man of The Wesley Pruitt Band, said that the event “easily attracted 550 people.”

Pruitt, who leads the bluegrass, Americana blues band said that giving back is what it was all about.

“We want to play music that makes your hips shake, and people seem to like that. It was a great opportunity for us to give back to our community and raise some money doing what we love best,” said Pruitt.

Not only did Pruitt take part it raising money, but he and his bandmates also volunteered their time in Van.  “We grilled burgers and helped out with security. More than anything, everyone wanted to help. We had such an overwhelming response of people wanting to donate time or funds. So many people from Canton, Van, Tyler, Austin or Dallas came down to help. There were bands that came to the concert all the way from Austin to play to raise money. It was a great thing.”
